why we should pray for our purpose in life

Have you ever felt so lost in your life’s journey?

Have you ever doubted yourself, wondering if you are doing what you should be doing? Have you ever pondered about your life’s purpose?

These maybe some of the questions you have asked yourself at some point in life. Others may still be asking such questions.

For those who are still asking, you are not alone in your quest for clarity. For those whose path is clouded with doubt, put your worries aside and let the light in.

Because, for sure, it would not help you find your way. For those who blindly trudge on every path presented; stop, breathe, and focus.

There is only one way towards the discovery of our life’s purpose in life: It is the way of God.

You know why? Because it is the easiest path of all. God has already laid out a grand plan for us. It is unfolding every day before us. It is up to us to know, to discover, and to understand the way he works in our lives.

One of the best ways to understand Him and how he operates is through PRAYER. Prayer is an instrument which we can use to communicate with Him. By praying we nourish our relationship with Him.

By nurturing our relationship with Him, we are able to accept him in our lives so he can unravel his plans for us.

“Ask, and you will receive” – John 16:24

Here are further reasons why you should pray for your purpose in life.

The lack of understanding of how God works usually causes doubt. Doubt hides the path He has created for us. It destroys our faith in Him and in our selves. So, how do we conquer our doubt? How do we find clarity? We PRAY.

When we pray, God makes this changes in the way we think, the way we perceive and the way we understand things or situations in our lives. He does this so He can direct us towards the right path.

Thus, we must always open our hearts and minds to Him. Let God hear your heart and guide your mind towards the path he has chosen for you to take.

“…so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:17

Sometimes, we pray to God to help us discover ourselves. People usually tend to imitate successful individuals in the hope that they could become them someday.

However, no matter what success they achieve, they still feel incomplete. Like a huge part of their being is missing.

But, if those persons knew that they could find themselves through Him, they would not have to experience such grief and sorrow.

And when we finally find ourselves, then it is easier for Him to nudge us back to our own path and towards the plans He has made for us.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my disquieting thoughts: And see if there be any way of pain in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” – Psalms 139:23-24

By communicating with God, through prayer, we seek guidance so we may follow him and his works.

Prayer is a most helpful weapon when we experience confusion on how to act in accordance to his will, most especially in choosing the right path or doing the right thing.

When we pray, God answers us by taking all those worries and decluttering our lives. Then, and only then, do we clearly see our way and it is easier to perform the tasks he wants us to do to fulfill His will.

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” – James 1:25

Some of us fast track our lives so we may achieve our wants in life, material or otherwise. In this fast pace we forget to look back and most of the time we leave behind our friends and families.

So when we reach the finish line, we are left alone despite our success. Most of the time, these people are moved by arrogance that they have figured out life. But their life is empty. They are in a constant state of dissatisfaction.

We must pray so he can show us how to be humble. So that he can remind us that we are not in absolute control of our lives. That he has already made plans for us.

All we must do is follow Him so we may find our true purpose and focus on building relationships with the people that cares for us and loves us.

“Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:4

Our prayers are not golden tickets to a direct route on understanding God’s will for us. We cannot just ask today have His will delivered to us in express. God has his own timing.

Everything will unravel at the right time. Because God knows when we have matured enough, when we are emotionally prepared to take the next step.

When we pray, we do not rush. We slow down and think about our lives and we ask God to help us understand how He operates in our lives so we won’t get lost. This is how he teaches us to live our lives by His time.

“…lack of patience can cause you to miss blessings” – 1 Samuel

Our lives are usually filled with challenges. Some may experience more than most. Some would struggle through this challenges.

Some may even think that they may not be on the right path because everything seems to go wrong. It is as if faith is telling you that you are not where you should be.

But when we pray, when we ask God to at our side, you know, you will not be defeated. You do not concern yourself with uncertainty whether you can push past a particularly difficult obstacle. Because you know that God will give you strength.

“…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:35

“I do what I want.” Most of us seek freedom. We abhor any form of restraints in our lives. We want to the freedom to choose what path to take in our lives.

Because of this mindset, some people may look at the idea of God controlling our lives negatively. But God does not want to restrain us. He wants to give us our freedom.

We must pray and talk to God to grant us freedom. That we may seek and follow His will without fear or guilt or bitterness. Fear that we might be punished for not following his will.

Guilt that instead of trying to determine His will, we sought our own selfish ways. Bitterness for a path we thought we should have taken. We must pray so he can show us the truth about ourselves and our destiny.

“If the Son sets you free, then you will be really free” – John 8:36

Finding your reason for existing, your purpose in life, is quite stressful sometimes. There are times you are filled with doubt.

There are also times that it is full of hindrances. Sometimes, it can be hard to find happiness. And unhappiness can darken and block our paths towards His will.

That is why we need to pray while we journey in our lives. We need to ask God to be with us always. We need to seek God’s love to always light our way and bring joy in our hearts so we may face whatever hardships we encounter with courage.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such other things there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23

Some people find it easy to find a purpose in life. But it doesn’t mean that it is the purpose God wants us to fulfill. In order to know with certainty our destiny, we must humble ourselves and ask God for wisdom.

And we can only seek wisdom from Him through our prayers. But we must learn to accept him first fully in our lives.

“In any of you luck wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea diven with the wind and tossed.” – James 1:5,6

To fulfill our purpose in life is to fulfill his will. Through our prayers he affects our lives by instilling in our hearts and minds his thoughts so we may think and feel as He does.

When we pray, we become closer to Him. We establish a strong bond with him allowing us to better understand Him. When we understand and know how He works, it is easier to look deep into our hearts and determine what path to take.

And by letting God’s example lead us and by living in accordance to his will, we honor and glorify him. Thus, He also fulfill his purpose for us.

“I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me” – Psalm 57:2
